well, at my house growing up, we didn't do fireworks. My mom was completely freaked out by them, so now at age 36, I have still never 'done' a firework. But I live very close to our baseball stadium (the same one where they hold the college world series), and I get to see them light them off all of the time, without having to travel anywhere. I love inviting friends over, and making my famous angel food cake layered with whip cream, blueberries, more whip cream, strawberry slices, and more whip cream, and so on. Everyone loves the cool, tasty, patriotic treat. Not super exciting, but it's all I've got. love the blog!
Ha, how's this for a 4th tradition? Up until the last 2 years, we have had a fireworks booth for our church's youth. Fun is staying up all night long to "babysit" the booth for 4 days in a row. Then after the booth is closed on the night of the 4th, everyone gets together in the church parking lot for a fireworks spectacular and a big giant potluck BBQ! Since we aren't doing it this year, I miss the really wierd people that come out around 3 a.m. and want to know what you're doing sitting out in the middle of a parking lot!
By the way, how's Fritz doing?
ummm

... need i say more??
I'm a "chain sparkler" holder. I use one to light the next...and the next...and the next all night long.
Happy 4th!
Our family loves sitting out front with all the neighbors and their kids and doing fireworks. We live close enough to the area where the city sets them off, that we can see them from our house! Lots of food, and good friends !!

WE ussually have a big HUGE 4th of july family reunion back home IN Sandhill Mississippi right outside of Brandon (Jackson area) I wish I could go this year but NO way with shingles I can ride that far. and it being in the middle of the week :( I love seeing all our family and catching up since this is ussually the one time of year we all woudl get to gether and eat and play games swim and have fun!
At our house it's all about the RIBS!! My husband is a rib-a-holic. So every 4th I buy him 2 racks and let him go at it! Top it off with some corn on the cob, macaroni salad and watermelon...and of course a couple of corona's. Then we sit in the middle of the street at 9pm with the other neighbors, as we have a perfect view of the fireworks from the fairgrounds.
Happy 4th everyone!!
Used to have a swimming and BBQ with our old neighbors when I was little. It was such fun, I miss it!
I love seeing the flag on the tree at my parents house . . .
and eating baby back ribs.
it's not the 4th without baby backs.
YUM!
Happy 4th girl!
Just the normal traditions...food and drink. Lots of adult beverages!
Fireworks, sparklers, BBQ and some drinks for the adults!
My favorite 4th tradition is the good ole fashioned block party. Having 10 families pool together their eats and more importantly, fireworks makes for a waaay better show. We line up three ladders together and put firepwrks on top of each and let the sparks fly. Much better than fighting traffic to see the "big" ones.
I love going to see the fireworks.
But over the past few years my SIL has hosted the 4th and her whole street closes for a parade put on by the people who live on the street. For 3 years in a row we have won first place.
